The Florida State Genealogical Society was incorporated as a non-profit organization 16 May 1977. The society was founded to promote the study and research of genealogy and local history. The society publishes source materials and family history, while encouraging seminars, workshops and similar educational meetings in the State of Florida. Since 1978, the society has held a statewide conference in a different Florida city each year with nationally well-known speakers.

Our goal is to promote the study and collection of genealogies, family history and local history. The Florida State Genealogical Society (FSGS) provides Florida source materials through the publication of books, the periodic journal The Florida Genealogist, and the newsletter, Florida Lines. Research services are available to those who are seeking a Florida Pioneer Certificate. Educational opportunities are given through the annual conference and workshops. In order to further promote and support genealogy throughout the State, FSGS provides honorary membership to every genealogy society in Florida.
