Joanne has been involved in genealogy for many years… but, as with most of us, during the working years, research was intermittent at best. Upon retirement, genealogy became her avocation.  She has traced both her paternal and maternal ancestors to Germany:  paternal ancestors to 1683 in the Rhineland Pfalz and maternal ancestors to1781 in Hesse.

Joanne served as President of the Charlotte County Genealogical Society in 2002 and 2003 and was Editor of their newsletter, Geneagram for 10 years. She taught “Basic Genealogy” in Charlotte County, 2002-2013; “Genealogy on the Internet” in the past and “Genealogy in Your PJs: The Internet” (2014) at Southwestern Florida State College (formerly Edison College) through the Lifelong Learning Institute.

In the fall of 2006, Joanne sought to form an organization for those who were researching Germanic genealogy. The result is the Southwest Florida Germanic Genealogy Society of which she was president (2006-2014). This society meets 5 times a year and holds an annual seminar with a noted German genealogist.
